Chelsea's triumph over 10-man Arsenal

Arsenal's run of miserable luck and uncharacteristic performances against Chelsea continued Sunday when the home side found itself a man and a goal down inside the opening 30 minutes.

Optimism around the Emirates Stadium faded when match official Mark Clattenburg unveiled a red card following Per Mertesacker's desperation tackle on Diego Costa, as the Spanish international barged toward goal. The straight red eventually led to the game-winning goal five minutes later, when Costa got on the end of Branislav Ivanovic's swerving cross into the Arsenal box.
Arsenal made a valiant attempt in its search for an equaliser with a positive brand of football that saw the North London side continue to surge into the Chelsea end despite the disadvantage. But Chelsea's organised performance at the back quelled Arsenal threats in the final third, as Arsene Wenger's men suffered yet another defeat against their Capital city rivals.
Guus Hiddink's squad is now unbeaten in eight matches versus Arsenal, including five wins. The victory also extended Chelsea's unbeaten run to nine matches under the Dutch gaffer.
