Liverpool's Flanagan set for 1st senior appearance
The 23-year-old full-back has recovered from a knee injury that sidelined him for the entire 2014-15 season, as well as the first half of the current campaign.
In a bid to regain match fitness, Flanagan has played for the Reds' Under-21 side. But manager Jurgen Klopp told reporters ahead of Wednesday's FA Cup third-round replay against Exeter City that Flanagan will be back in the senior squad, and he could feature at some point in the match.
"Jon is in a really good way and we’re all happy about this. He is not (ready) for the starting lineup, but if nothing happens and he feels good then he will be on the bench," said Klopp. "If there is a situation then we can bring him on, of course. It has really been a long time for him."
Flanagan's last competitive appearance for Liverpool came in a 2-1 win over Newcastle in May 2014.
"I think now it’s the first step back for him to breathe in and feel Anfield; being back in the dressing room, not in a suit but a tracksuit, so it’s a good, good step for him," said Klopp. "If nobody tells me something different, he will be in the squad."
